Prof Carolyn Evans, VC and President of Griffith University, Chair of IRU and President of the AHEIA
Carolyn and Judyth discuss interdisciplinarity as a strategy for social and sector growth - medical doctors who can write, economists with a sense of history, health professionals with data skills. They ponder what it takes to earn a student's commute into campus and dive into environmental science as an early, 'crazy' initiative. The two professors explore the give and take of cross-subsidisation in universities - research and teaching, international and domestic, scaled and non-scalable courses - and what it means for disruption and risk to higher education. Plus: why universities should not be shy about rallying support from outside the sector; Carolyn's advice to incoming leaders; and how policymakers can counter a 'short-termism' approach.
